Question:
I am 6 days post op and I urinate once an hour all night long, is that normal?
Once I get to the bathroom it's only a trickle but I cannot get any sleep from getting up going to the bathroom every hour. During the day it's normal. Any suggestions what I should do? Other than buying depends LOL — felicia W. (posted on August 5, 2003)

The same thing happened to me for about 2-3 weeks post-op. Between all of
the fluids in my body post-surgery from IV's and such, plus all of the
water I started drinking, I had a lot to get rid of! That would be my
guess with you too. Just keep your fluids going so you don't get
dehydrated. Things should return to normal in a couple of weeks. Good
luck! Jody :)

I went to the bathroom constantly the first few weeks post op as well. Did
you have a catheter at all? I know when I spoke with my nurse about my
hourly bathroom breaks she said it takes a while for the bladder to
readjust after having the catheter in. It will get better! I promise!

Sounds like a urinary tract infection, perhaps from the cathether. Call
your doc and they can get you on some antibiotics.

All of the below are possibilities. Your best bet would be rule out the
infection first.

It's called peeing out all the fluid they pumped into you while in the
hospital. Some lose it quickly and some lose it over the first few weeks.
It depends on how your tissue hold it.
