Question:
How much excess skin did you have if any?

I am a 32 year old female 5'2" & weigh 227 my BMI is 42.9. My question is to there anyone out there with similar stats. How well did your skin do? Did it "snap back" or did you have a lot of execess? I know everyone is different. But I have heard that the younger you are the better you skin does. I am worried about bat wings & turkey neck. If this happened to you is there anything other than plastic surgery to fix the problem? Did you do any toning exercises before WLS to help firm up? I'd like to also see some pictures if possible. Thanks. Estela :)    — vllgmz4 (posted on August 1, 2003)

Well, would being 5'3" and 226 on the date of my surgery be close enough stats?? *wink* I had surgery on 5-16-02 and today I weigh about 137 pounds and I lost very slowly in comparision to most profiles I've read here. But, the great thing is the slower you lose the better it is. My skin had time to shrink with me. I do not need surgery for loose skin except for one area...my tummy and to be honest I am not so sure I would have to that if I would just get out there and excercise. I can wear a 2 piece and still get whistled at so I can't be too bad. But, trust me, you'll be your own worst critic. Drink your water is the best advise I can give and then later Mother Nature do the rest... Best of luck to you!

I am 32 years old and although taller I started out with a BMI of 40.7. I had a TT with less than 2 pounds of skin removed. I didn't have "hanging" skin but it was a little on the squishy side and I had a lot of stretch marks from pregnancies. The after pic on my profile is before my TT. If anyone would like to see the graphic pictures of before and after send me an email and I will foward them to you. I never needed any surgery on my arms, legs or neck as you can see from the pics on my profile. I never exercised a lot as far as going to a gym or anything, however, I did do things like started taking my kids swimming, bike riding with them, etc. I did always try and get 100 grams of protein a day to retain my underlying muscle tissue to prevent some sagging. I have more info on my profile.

I am 56 and had surgery in Feb. I am 5'1: or 5'2" depending on who is doing the measuring and I started at 228.6. I am within 20 lbs of my personal goal for my age and I have no hanging skin. I always had small arms and they are a little flabby and were before surgery due to aging and lack of toning exercise but my tummy is fine. No apron, Thank God.
