Question:
What is a good breakfast food?
What is a good breakfast food that you can eat on your way to work that does not take long to prepare. I've tried the carnation instant breakfast, it makes me so sick. I go back to work Monday and I need something that I can eat on the way to work. — Christy H. (posted on July 19, 2003)

I don't know about breakfast type food...but I used to eat string cheese
sticks when I was still in soft food stage...now I eat peanut butter
crackers. Hope that helps. You might be able to try those yogurt tubes,
but I don't know if they make any lower suger ones.

I like the pre-made Atkins shakes in a can.

Dannon has a new Lite 'n Fit smoothie. It's in a little bottle so you can
drink it as you drive....just be careful:) It has 80 calories, 0 fat, 15
carbs, 5 protein. It's sweetened with Splenda and comes in several
flavors.

I wasn't really a breakfast eater pre-op. Now, it is particularly
important to eat a protein filled breakfast. My surgeon DOES NOT want us
to use protein shakes. We had this surgery to get to a normal weight and
normal people eat real food. I also like to sleep in as late as I can and
still get to work on time. So, my favorite breakfast is to take a piece of
string cheese and wrap deli sliced turkey or ham around it and out the door
I go. You could wrap up a little mustard or light mayo in it if you like.
It takes about 15 minutes or so to get to work, so I nibble all the way
there. By the time I get signed on to my computer and organized for the
day, it is been long enough that I can have my decaf coffee. I start
almost every workday like this. Weekends are usually scrambled egg with
cheese and salsa or cottage cheese sweetened with a little Splenda and
fresh berries stirred in or sweetened with a little cinnamon sprinkled on
top. Hope these ideas help. Good luck to you!

In the beginning that is tough. I used to eat a yogurt and add some
vanilla protein powder to it to up the grams of protein. Now, I can eat
steak and eggs if I want I just skip the home fries and toast.

"We" had surgery for many different reasons and as a former non
breakfast eater (very bad habit) I now choose to have a Real Meals shake
first thing in the morning and then one of the Breakstone individual
cottage cheese cups about 2 hours later. They are very totable. I never ate
like a normal person before (hence the need for WLS) and don't really trust
my own instincts to do that on my own at just 6 months out. If it is a
choice between a shake and nothing I would think that the shake would be a
better choice.

Think outside the normal "breakfast" foods. I had cold shrimp
dipped in cocktail sauce the other morning for breakfast.

You can make these the day before. Scramble a couple eggs with some
chopped lean ham in it. Put a slice of cheese and the egg mixture in a
flour tortilla and roll it up. Heat it up in the morning in the
microwave....I love putting mild salsa on mine. (I like to get the packets
of mild picante at MCdonalds). In fact, I frequently go through the
drive-through at Mickey-D's in the mroning for one of their breakfast
burritos. They are only $1.00. They have sausage instead of ham, so I
sometimes unroll it and take a few pieces of the sausage out. There really
isn't much in there anyway, maybe 10 little pieces the size of your baby
fingernail. They have both mild and hot picante sauce and they are
wonderful!

I have had either an Atkins shake or Body Fortress shake, or Polly-O Lite
string cheese and a piece of fruit.

I eat 4 moz cheese sticks each morning for breakfast (28 grams of protein).
When I was early out I ate 1 or 2 and have eaten 4 since I was about 5 or
6 months out. I'm 12 months out now. Once in a great while I do something
different, but 90% of the time, that's my food of choice :>)

I tried the instant breakfast, etc. but what I find really works and
"sticks with me" is a packet of instant oatmeal (I use 4 oz milk
instead of water). I sometimes have 1/4 to 1/2 cup Cheerios with milk and
1/4 to 1/2 banana, but the oatmeal really seems to keep me satisfied for
most of the morning.
