Question:
What's the typical day's eating like for 7 weeks post op?
I'm 7 weeks post op and -45lbs. I am at the stage that I HATE eating. I do eat so that I'll stay healthy, but I'm just fed up with finding something that agrees with me, that tastes good too. Most days start with a protien drink (made with water, not milk), for lunch some tuna, or other protien, and maybe a little veggie if there's room, and for dinner, sauted chicken with soft cooked veggies, etc. I get very bored, and sometimes the food hurts going down so I just skip it. Just wondering how all you other 7 weeker's are doing. Feed back please... and thank you so much! — Happy I. (posted on July 1, 2003)

Expand your horizons... cottage cheese, regular cheese, deli meats, frozen
dinners, wendy's chili, baked potatoes, Nuts, fruit, heck I sneak in a
hershey kiss once in a while too...
Don't look at food as a chore... its not always fun, or easy... but create
an adventure. What did you eat before surgery??? look at those foods and
see if they are still good choices, and just eat less... Make sure you are
adding spices to things, set a place at the table, and smile to yourself at
the small amounts that satisfy you now!
My typical day goes something like this...
a glass of 50/50 juice water when I first get up....
a small bowl of cereal and milk 30 min later....
mid morning snack (if I am hungry) is cheese or grapes...part of an
apple... apple sauce...
Lunch:
a salad with cheese, meat, crutons, and some dressing, lettuce of course
too
Dinner: chicken breast, or small steak, maybe some scallops, tuna on
crackers, cottage cheese and some soy nuts...
Unless your doctor has you on a restricted meal plan... go for it...
Wonderful loss, you must be doing something right!!!

I usually only eat fresh things. I also like cold stuff. I have tried
breaded, fried or my favorite pizza. I really don't like any of it. I
crave fruit. I really like cheeses or lunch meats, any kind of fruit or
veggies. I do like things grilled. I read on here that many people eat
fillet mignon. I thought steak was a no no. But, I tried it. It tasted
awesome to me. I buy a small steak and cut it into 3 equal pieces. This
way I can grill a small serving at a time for myself and my husband doesn't
have to share his steak with me. I dump very easily on even sugar free
stuff if I'm not careful. It usually has artificial sugar and I can't
handle that. I found an Atkins protein bar that I like and can tolerate. I
eat about 1/3 of one a day. So, one bar lasts me 3 days. I also love
country loin ribs on the grill. It gets discouraging I know. I'm about 10
weeks out and food is agreeing a little better and not tasting quite so
nasty. But, I too have to make myself eat even though I like these things
I've listed. I could skip a meal very easy. I just don't and make myself
eat. Good luck, Lisa

I hear ya Lisa...........I too am 7 weeks and down 49 pounds so congrats!
While I appreciate the suggestions of the posters, I think I am in your
boat where the foods that the others are suggesting you "try"
just dont taste good or even worse if they DO go down, they dont wanna stay
down. Lunch works better for me than dinner.
Most days I think I feel normal again until I try something that my
dietician says should be eaten, and it doesnt sit well with me.
What I am enjoying for a change is canned tamales with a side of refried
beans. Makes me feel like Im eating something normal. Also Try mixing half
cup vanilla yogurt with half cup DF applesauce and chill overnite. Crumble
some 'nilla wafer on it too if you like. Lunches, I started getting those
little 7 oz kiddie sized Hormel meals like chili or beans n franks. Decent
protein count, low call (150-200 or so) and mushy enuff to go down and stay
down.
Oh well......life will get better for us, in more ways than one.

Oh how I feel your pain! At 7 wks (I'm 11) I was eating cottage cheese,
string cheese, oatmeal, Taco Bell mexican pizza (no tomato and eating less
than 1/2 of it) and strained soups. Food just didn't appeal to me AT ALL!
At that stage food is trial & error.
One thing that played a major part for me is that I was waiting too long
between meals. That caused real problems.
Good luck.

I'm about a month further out than you, but I found at about 6 weeks that
fish was my new best friend. I had always eaten fish, but never a lot of
it. Now I find that any seafood goes down well and sits well with me. I
eat cold shrimp with a little bottled cocktail sauce, grilled salmon
patties, broiled tilapia filets, sauteed scallops, crab salad, tuna (fresh
and canned), etc., etc. Even if you didn't like fish before, you might
like it now. I also do well with eggs, though I understand a lot of people
don't, but again, try and see what works for you. Early on, I craved
Mexican food (refried beans, the insides of tacos, chili, tamale filling,
fajitas without the tortilla and such). That also sat well with me.
