Question:
Have any of you had your surgery covered by Workers' Compensation Insurance?
I have an industrial injury to my back which has resulted in substantial weight gain due to lack of mobility. I am looking for patients who have had similar experiences with injuries (not necessarily to their back, but perhaps a knee or other orthopaedic injury) that resulted in weight gain and have subsequently been successful with Workers' Compensation covering the cost of their weight loss surgery. — DeAnna S. I seriously doubt you'd get it approved thru worker's comp. And the
paperwork and hoops you'd have to jump thru just wouldnt be worth it. If
you have health insurance I'd take that route instead.

Your profile shows your BMI at just over 30 so you would not qualify for
WLS. I'm sorry for the pain and lack of mobility you suffer with since
your accident. My husband has a similar situation. Has WC covered all of
your medical treatment and/or surgery to help you get your health back? Is
there anything more that can be done to help your back? I understand your
frustration but I can't see WC covering this surgery even if you did have a
BMI that qualified. Hope things get better for you! Take care.

Just to add another voice to those before me...you are not morbidly obese
with a bmi of 30 - though I am sure it is VERY frustrating to you, having
once been an active person. I would think you could get them to cover
surgery to repair your back or knee of what have you, but most-likely not
WLS - even if your BMI continues to go up. To get them to pay for it, you
would have to PROVE beyond a reasonable doubt that your injury is the sole
cause for your weight-gain and I just don't see how you'd do that. Too
many people are severly injured and don't gain weight (substantial or
otherwise) for you to prove this was the sole cause of your increase.
Clear as mud huh? Sorry! Hope you find what your looking for :>)
