As soon as your dtr clears you for beef,(for me about wk 6) but, BE
CAREFUL, tomato sauce is high in sugar and so it could make you dump.

You should be able to eat Manwich by 4 weeks post-op (or I could have if I
had chosen to - without the bread) but I didn't eat it because it is full
of sugar. Not only do I dump on sugary foods, but I didn't want the
calories. There really are better choices.

Give Wendy's chili a try. The protein is high and I don't think there is
much sugar.

Hi Christy, I too was a fan of sloppy joes pre-op. In my search for post-op
normalcy, if there is such a thing, I still have a family to feed too. Have
what I call my imitation sloppy joes that my family just loves! I take
ground turkey (very very little fat and lots of protein) and brown it with
some chopped onion, salt, pepper and a little garlic pdr. Then add a can of
cream of mushroom soup. The rest of the family eats this on toasted buns.
Sometimes I eat a little on a cracker or just by itself. Yummy! Best of
luck to you.

I have tried using the manwich a couple of times and each time is has made
me feel sick. If I want to have sloppy joe again I will do it the old
fashion way and use ketchup. Ketchup doesn't seem to bother me.

Here's a link to the nutritional values. Only 4 grams of sugar in 1/4 cup
of sauce. I must say I was surprised! They also make a "Bold"
variety that is supposed to be less sweet. Since most of us wouldn't eat
more than 1/4 cup of sauce this would probably be OK for most unless you
are really sugar-sensitive. I did have a little trouble with ground beef at
first, but by 10 weeks out I think it was fine. Try plain hamburger first
so you'll know if you can tolerate that, then try it with a little sauce. I
wouldn't advise the bread . . . Maybe with crackers? Here's the

i tried sloppy joes at about one month post op. i found the taste of
manwhich too sweet, even though the sugar didn't bother me. so instead i
use newman's own marinara sauce, much less sweet.

Hi! Splenda.com has a BBQ recipe that makes a quart of sauce that you could
make and use for your Homemade Manwich's(instead of canned manwich) and
other things you want to add BBQ sauce on. I'll email it to you. Vicki
