Hi, I'm 2 months out and I had the open RNY. Dumping is usually from having
too much sugar intake which causes diarrhea. Sometimes it can be very
severe.

My doc says I experience mild dumping. After I eat I sometimes start to
sweat, my heart rate increases and I get very tired. A power nap does
wonders for me, 10-15 mins and it passes. I had a really bad dumping
experience today trying a new food. My stomach immediately started to
girgle and I had to go the bathroom. It wasn't diarrhea just the urgency
to go. Then the dry heaves and a fierce sweat. I didn't vomit. I got
very weak. By the time I got to the bed to lie down I had the chills. The
whole incident lasted about a half hour.

dumping varies from person to person and can encompass some or all of the
following(and I'm sure there's more I'm missing): shakiness, sweats (hot
flashes), rapid heart rate, extreme fatigue (or sleepiness), diahrea,
weakness, stomach cramping, intestinal cramping. Basically it's a glucose
reaction to what you've eaten and it draws water out of your body and into
your intestines - IF I remember correctly. I'm sure you'll get some good
answers on this and I'll get some corrections to my statement :>)

Just for your clarification, dumping is not the same as "taking a
dump"...it sounds crude, I know, but for awhile that's what I thought
it meant too. Dumping is a reaction, usually from too much suger,
sometimes from fat, and it encompasses many of the symptoms that the
previous responders said.

Everyone feels different sensations from the foods (or from the wrong
foods) that they eat---- palpatations, nausea, cramping or any number of
other symptoms. Not all are from dumping. Dumping technically refers to
the sensation that develops when your body overproduces insulin- this
typically happens with white carbs that your pouch can't process and then
"dumps" into the intestines where they white carbs signal the
need for insulin to be produced.

And just to add to what the others have said, not everyone dumps and even
those that do have varying degrees of it. For some, it is mild and for
others it is severe, like a full fledged flu that lasts a good 1/2 hour.
Yours sounds more like an irritable bowel incident or just a bad reaction
to a certain food that your system was not ready for.
