Question:
I found a number of comments on no stringy celery - why not? What's with celery?

have you ever gotten celery clogged in your garbage disposal? it sticks to
the sides and doesnt come out very easy. i am only guessing that is why
they say to stay away from it. it is hard to digest:)

I was told by my doctor that carrots and celery do not break down beyond
the consistency you chew it. Once it hits your stomach it does not digets
any further.

Hi there! I am still pre op, but I do remember reading somewhere that it is
rather hard to digest, since it is so fiberous and stringy. I have also
heard that it can get stuck in your pouch as well. I would say check with
your surgeon and see what he says. But I figure that he will probably tell
you to avoid it. It tastes good and is low calorie, but it doesn't have
much real nutritional value, so the risk isn't worth the minimual gain, in
my opinion. Anyways, have a great day!

I'm almost 3 months post-op. I just had celery yesterday with no problems
at all. When I ate it, I broke it in half first and pulled a lot of the
strings off. Everyone is different I guess.??

My nutritionist said that food with membranes, like grapes, raising, even
the orange wedges, are hard on the pouch and don't digest, mostly clog up
the works, and I've heard the strings on the celery are the same way from
other sources.

Peeling celery like you would a carrot removes most of the strings.
