Question:
Can I go on a 3 day cruise at 2 months out - Lap/RNY?
I will have Lap/RNY on 6/30/03. Our 10th year anniversary is the end of August. My husband has planned a 3-day cruise. We will port from San Diego, CA. (Home, no need to take a flight anywhere.) Should I postpone this trip? Will I have the energy to enjoy myself? Or, is this to soon to travel even for this short weekender? — [Deactivated Member] (posted on June 15, 2003)

I haven't had my surgery yet but will be having it this week. But a woman
who goes to the support group meeting I go to, had her surgery which was
Lap/RNY, on a thursday and was back to work on monday. So I see no reason
why you would need to change your plans. Go and have fun!!!

I say - GO GO IT and Have fun. I have LAP RNY in April and I was tired
only for a week or so- but after that I felt great. My doctor only adviced
me to take it easy for a week and then there was no limitations. I totally
felt normal by 2 month- better than ever. You will just have to remember to
get the water in and to try to stick as close as you can to what you eating
plan is suppose to be. You will be fine. Lucky You- have a good time!!! Jan

A cruise is sooooo relaxing. You will have so much fun too. The advantage
with a cruise is that you can do absolutely nothing but lay by the pool or
party all night, the choie is yours.
Why don't you asked your surgeon if he thinks it would be OK. I would
think the answer would be YES. Did your husband buy "trip
insurance"? It allows changes to be made at the last minute in case
of illness. We have cruised many times (I'm pre-op) and always get trip
insurance.
Have a wonderful time.

Hi! I agree with Jan - Go for it! I love to cruise, and I prefer to
vacation that way. I live close to Orlando, FL, so I'm only 45 minutes for
Port Canaveral, or just a 4 hour drive from Miami. You should definitely
go. If the cruise line has a spa on board, book a facial or massage -
something for you...it will be great! Have fun! Denise 316/153

Barring any complications, you should be fine. I went for a 4 hour drive
to Niagara Falls about 2 mos after my lap RNY 2 years ago and had a great
time walking all over the place. As usual though, check w/your doc.

Go for it! I am 47 and went with a high school marching band to Florida
about 1 month post lap RNY. It was 20 hours on a bus down, and 20 hours
back. I had a great time, just got out of the bus and walked whenever it
stopped. We went to the parks and had a great time, plenty of energy. So
a cruise would be not problem. Have fun!

Most definatly you will be able to go on your cruise. I had lap RNY on Nov
20 and went on a three day cruise the firs week in January. I had a
wonderful time I so no need for you to postpone.
