Question:
Can we eat enough/absorb enough post-op for bodybuilding?

A male friend of mine is interested in WLS - maybe VBG, maybe a proximal RnY. He asked me if after surgery, if it were possible to ingest/absorb enough protein for effective weightlifting/bodybuilding (he was apparently into this 15 yrs ago or so and would like to return if he could). Any bodybuilders out there? Is it feasible with any bypass? Are there any sites specifically addressing this topic? Thanks!    — Mendi M. (posted on June 12, 2003)

Check out the yahoo OSSG-Graduates group. There are some body builders over there and I've seen quite a few discussions on this. Looks like they've been pretty successful post-RNY.

I don't see why not as long as he would be willing to get the needed amount of protein via supplements...faithfully.

i know that under this protective layer that i carry around is a bodybuilder in training. i have been working out and using nutrition as if i am already at that point. there should be no reason a person cant reach that goal...alex open rny 250-168 12/18/02
