Question:
Nausea & vomiting any suggestions?
I am 2 months post-op from a LAP RNY. I have been fighting nausea and vomitting since surgery. I have had two upper GI's and everything looks 'normal' yet I have a really hard time keeping anything down. It's totally frustrating me. I gag really easily too. Any suggestions? I have this problem when I overeat or eat too fast. It is hard to slow
myself down.

ok, I read your profile...I take it the anti-nausea meds aren't helping any
longer? Well for what it's worth, I'd suggest you go no longer than 2 1/2
to 3 hours between eating. As you said often it means your hungry. You
could be letting your body go too long between meals. Try really hard to
eat in the mornings even if it's a protein bar or shake (though I avoid
them personally). I found eggs to be hard to eat the first 3 months and
really upset my stomach quickly - sometimes hurt. Avoid fats as much as
possible if you find that they trigger your nausea. if you can find a
couple of things that don't nauseate you - eat them! I lived on
Franco-American spaghetti the first couple of months. That and string
cheese...and while the spaghetti was not the best carb vs protein choice it
settled well so I ate it. Sometimes you just HAVE to get food in and work
your way up to the better-for-you foods as you go. Good luck to you!

<font color="007000" face="tahoma">My very good
friend is an RN and after my surgery she gave me a wonderful tip to help
subside nausea... wave rubbing alcohol under your nose (either on a cotton
ball or if you can get the little packets of the alchol wipes like they
have in the hospital).
