Question:
7 months post op Open Rny, 10 wks pregnant, still losing weight??
I have a strange situation. I am 7.5 months post Open RNY, down from 318 lbs to 230 lbs. About 4 wks ago, I found out I was pregnant and have sinced changed my eating habits. It's always been hard for me to get down a whole meal, so before I found out I was pregnant it didn't matter if I didn't finish dinner or lunch. Now I try to finish (not over-eating or stuffing myself) because I know I need enough nutrition for my little one who is growing and dependent upon my eating habits. So in the last week, my weight has gone from 230 to 220. I'm eating more, I'm eating more often. How is that possible? I haven't lost that much so fast since my first month post op. I thought the scale was broken, but my husband weighs the same when he got on. Any ideas or thoughts?? Thanks!! — J. W. (posted on May 27, 2003)

Sorry not sure what happened their. Anyway as I was saying my opinion is
that I'm assuming your still eating the same healthy foods before right?
Only more of them. And before you were eating a smaller amount not even
getting to where you felt full? So your body was starving. Now that your
eating enough for you your body thinks, okay don't need to hold on to every
last pound, I'm fine... which is why your losing more. Also your body is
now giving mutrients to your baby, your hormones are raging, anything could
be a reason. If your concerned talk to a doc about it. I'm sorry I don't
have a good ans. But if I were you I'd sign up for the group on yahoo for
pregnant WLS patients. Good luck and congrats!!

I'm really lacking in expertise in this sitation, so I won't pretend, but
from what I've read on here, there are post-ops who got pregnant early,
still lost weight while eating alot, and had succesful babies. My
suggestion is to see a high-risk OB/GYN if you're not already. Also, look
up pregnancy on the archives of this site, there will be many posts. And I
believe there is a yahoo site for post-ops who are pregnant, maybe someone
else will come up with the link to it. Also, eating larger quantities isn't
really an option here, so you will have to eat more frequently. Eating
every 2 hours should get you alot more nutrition (and not considered
grazing). And even if you did graze at this point just to be able to get
in enough food, it obviously doesn't matter b/c your baby's health does
more. Congatulations to you and your husband :-)
