Question:
8 days post op, not feeling full on soft foods
I'm 8 days post and not feeling "full" from the soft poached egg in the morning and ounce of refried beans at lunch. I'm scared of getting a large stoma, but could it be that I'm just eating soft foods and it's going through more quickly? — Happy I. (posted on May 20, 2003)

It could also be that you're not eating enough at one time. I found that
it took 2 to 2.5 ounces to fill me up comfortably once I went to soft
foods. Less than that and I was hungry again soon! You want to be
comfortably full. Not overtly so though. Try increasing the volume a bit
(maybe a 1/2 ounce at a time) until you find your comfort zone.

Lisa,
It sounds like you aren't eating enough. I am six days out. My surgeon has
us eating three meals a day, 2-4oz each meal. I am on a pureed diet, which
sounds like the stuff you are eating, and I eat 4oz each meal. I am never
hungry, have to make myself eat.

Lisa~~Do you
have a nutritionist? Does your doctor have you on a specific diet plan post
op? If so, you really need to speak with them. Every doctor and
nutritionist is different. I am 4 weeks post op and per my nutritionist I
only eat 8 teaspoons per meal, adding one teaspoon every week. (6 teaspoons
= 1 ounce). If you dont think you are feeling like you should be, talk to
your doctor :) Good Luck!

Darlin, you are 8 days post-op. You really do not get a "sense of
fullness" until you start on more of a regular diet. I was concerned
at that point as well. Don't worry at this point about stretching your
stoma. It is VERY hard to stretch your pouch or your stoma. I hope this
puts you at ease.
