I started salads at about 6 weeks post op and have been munching on them ever since! Try throwing some chicken or ham in it for some added protein. Or some hard boiled egg. I've become really creative with my salads and have had no problems digesting them. Best of Luck.

I was about 3 months post-op. Now they are my favorite, I make my junk sald (thats what my husband calls them). I put a ton of cheese and meat and veggies. My husband looks around for the cat after I make my everything salads LOL. Take care. RNY 9/02 was 213 now 133.

I started eating salads for lunch just this week - I'm 8-1/2 weeks post-op. It really depends on the person. So far, I've had no problem with any foods I've tried, but there may come a time. Just try and see.

The politically correct answer is to ask your surgeon, however, I started salads at 5 weeks post-op. Started with the softer ingredients, like iceberg lettuce, tomato, mushroom, hard boiled egg, cheese, kidney beans, and some onion. At about 6-7 weeks, I started adding shredded carrot, cucumber and broccoli. My first salad was literally the best thing I had ever tasted! A good salad with grilled meat or chicken in it is still a fav!

As I type, I'm munching on a Wendy's Mandarin Chicken Salad - yummy! I'm 5 weeks post-op. I could NOT wait to start salads. Granted, I eat the chicken & almonds (protein!protein!protein!) first, and IF there's room, I eat a few of the greens. I missed salad SO much the first weeks....Munch away!

I started salad at 4 weeks post op. It was the best thing I had eaten up until that point. I stayed away from onions and tomatoes at first. I just had the lettuce with finely shedded carrots and cabbage. I added fat free shredded cheese to it for protien and a fat free sugar free dressing. I never had a single problem with it and salads are still a huge part of what I eat at almost 8 months post op. Wendi Open RNY 9/19/02 down 121 lbs

I'll be 4 weeks out tomorrow and today I tried a small ceasar side salad from Wendy's and I could actually eat more of that than I can other foods! I only ate about 3/4 of it, but that's a lot more than I can eat of anything else It all stayed down and I didn't have any trouble chewing it. I had the Low Fat Ranch dressing with it (only 3 grams of sugar) and it was delicious!! I think I'll stick with Wendy's salads from now on. Good thing my husband is the manamger of one, huh!! He can bring me home one every night, lol.

I'm 4 months out, and still can't eat salads. I have too much trouble chewing them to get them down. Maybe one day I'll be able to eat them-- after my braces come off, perhaps!

Oh maaaaaan! I CRAVED salads right off the bat. My husband was dieting as I was recouping from my WLS, so he ate a lot of salads. I'd just lust away! Oh that smell of fresh cucumber drove me NUTS! I first tried salad (the crispier the better AND with oil and vinegar type dressings now instead of old fav, Ranch)when I was about 6 weeks out. I had NO problems with it and was amazed how you could eat 'lots'. ;) In order to not get the guilt trip going on, I have some kind of protein tossed in with my salads. Salad has always been a big time favorite of mine. Still is. Enjoy! Chew very well, and go slow.

My favorite meal is steak or chicken chopped up into a green salad with tomatoes, cukes, sunflower seeds and Ranch dressing. I make it a few hours in advance so that the dressing can start breaking down the lettuce and meat. Makes it MUCH easier to chew and digest. Yummmm!

I was allowed to have raw, fresh fruits and vegetables at 6 weeks post-op. At exactly 6 weeks, I had steak, Caesar salad, mushrooms and baked potato for my son's 18th birthday. Only had a couple of bites of each thing, but man, was it good. I am 17 months out now and I eat salad all the time - one of my favorite meals is Wendy's Mandarin Chicken Salad - and yes, I eat part of the salad dressing. When I first started eating these, one salad was three or four meals - now it's two if I add more chicken.

My Dr. saids 8 weeks for raw fruits and vegatables - but I started at almost 7 weeks. The Caesar Salad at Burger King with the Grilled Chicken made 3 meals for me - Real good.
