Question:
At almost 4 weeks out I feel like I am not losing like I should.
At 1 1/2 weeks, I lost 20 pounds and since then I have only lost about 2 or 3 more. I am not eating alot. I know when to stop and I can't understand why the scale is not going down. Can you stop losing if you are not getting in 60 grams of protein? Please help... — Kathy B. (posted on May 12, 2003)

Everyone loses at different paces and even though you may not be losing
pounds, you are still losing inches. It is very important to follow your
Doctors diet and protien is very important also. If you are suppose to get
in 60g then try hard to get that in. I myself lose slower when I don't get
my protien in....very strange, but this works :o) Good luck to you and
congradulations!

That first big whoosh of weight that goes in the first week or two is
largely water losses. You really don't WANT to lose more than 4 or 5
pounds a week on a normal week as the strain on your kidneys, liver and
heart would be astronimacal....one of the major issues behind the Optifast
diet. Too fast of a loss and people had kidney failure and heart attacks.
Let your body shift the weight around, turn it into waste to be eliminated.

Wjat my dietician informed me of if you don't get in the water, and all
your protien, your body will think it is starving and will slow down to
stopping the loss for self preservation. Increase your fluids and protien
and see if that helps. I have not had the surgery yet, but it seems to be
the pattern as what I've heard so far. Plus if you only have just over 100
lbs to loose, you most likely are a slow loser. I'm expecting to be a slow
loser from others in my same height and weight.Ask your dietician or others
in your support group. Good luck and congrats on becoming a loser. Hoping
to becoming a loser in June or July.
