Question:
Fun question, Who will win?

Okay, not a real seriouse question, but a fun one. Lets see who has been a post-op the longest. Respond by giving your surgery date and weight loss. The longest post -op will be "crowned" Ms. WLS '03 and will be given all our undying respect and admiration!    — Lindsay F. (posted on March 28, 2003)

I know there are longer post ops than me. My date was May 8th, 2001. I've lost 160 of the 190 pounds I had hoped to lose. (Down half my body weight).

I am 2years and 2 1/2 months post op, surgery 1/8/01. I know there are many members more "long-term" than I am. But I did want to chime in that although I won't "win" this contest, I most definitely am a winner!!! Started at 263, was at goal by 10 months post and then went 15 pounds below goal to 123. I have been at this exact weight for over a year--with absolutely NO effort!! Best wishes to Mr. or Ms. WLS. BTW- At my stage I am in a weird position. I don't feel post-op long enough to be considered "long-term" and I am still learning about my body daily. However, I don't feel newly post-op either. Does anyone have a good term to describe those of us that are in this category? How about a second contest to name the mid post-op time period or person? Shelley

My father-in-law is 73 and had the old small bowel bypass surgery about 40 years ago. He weighed over 400lbs at the time and had an incision 36 inches across his abdomen! He is 5"11" and weighs 190-200lbs. He (and my MIL) are both active and travel a lot. He still rides his bicycle several miles every day ( and has literally worn out several bicycles!). His only problem is now osteoporosis because he was never on ANY supplements of any kind after surgery! (Hard to believe - I think it was probably more his hard-headedness and thinking he didn't need them!) I have no doubt he would not be alive today if he had not had that surgery. He doesn't come to this site or post, but I think it's pretty amazing and kind of puts to rest the idea that post WLS patients have a shorter life span! By the way, he spent most of his life owning and operating a tavern then a restaurant, so he was around food all the time!
