Well I am moving at about 1.3 miles in 20 minutes or kless. I am moving really fast, and jogging slightly. I cant do much better or my bad knee hurts:( I actually enjoy jogging and wish my knee wasnt bad. I had fallen and am a candidate for a future knee replacement. Wonder what those monitors cost? <P> My eventual goal is to do the grand canyon, and come back out again under my own power.

I walk as far as my body wants to go. I have found since surgery that I really have to listen to my body and respect it's limits. Frustrating at times, for sure but my endurance is much lower than before. All that said, I try to walk for at least a half an hour at a brisk pace. When I walk w/ my friend I walk much further than when I am alone. I have a pedometer and I should track it but I agree with the time and intensity statement below.

I walk anywhere betweeen 3.5 and 6.5 miles per day, just depends on weather and how much time I have. I live just north of Cincinnati and we have some pretty good hills. I started walking last November and I move pretty fast. I have my son's 14 month old, 100 lb+ Rottweiler who needs exercise every day, so we have walked in all kinds of weather! (He is great motivation.) I think walking in the snow really helped build my endurance - what a workout there, but glad that has past! (I hope!) Only problem with walking the dog - last night our 1 hour walk took two - we had to stop and do tricks for bunches of kids along the way. (He's a scary looking dog, but very gentle, sweet and even tempered, so we do what we can to dispell the vicious dog myth about Rotties.)

Wow.. I feel to.. NON serious about my walking after reading this. I don't walk for distance, because I'm getting better and faster each week.. I guess, or I hope. I walk for time, not distance--the only time I know distance is if I use a treadmill in a gym. I walk anywhere between 25 minutes and 55 (today) ... usually its about 45 ... I do three days on and one off. Good luck.. I think heart rate and how long you keep it up is most important for calorie burning.
