Question:
Post ops-- Has anyone had their period on the Depo shot?

I am 2 months post op and got my first Depo shot last month. I now have my period really badly. The cramps are horrible and I am bleeding pretty strongly. I have been told that the depo shot isn't 100%. I just want to see if maybe this happens the first few months and then goes away or am I the only one???????    — Philippa F. I had my first depo shot about 1 month before surgery. When if first got home it was like I was having a light period. I am now 4 months out and have had my second shot and still spot now and than. They tell you that getting your period/spotting is normal while on that shot because it take between 6-9 months for your body to adjust to it. Hope this helps!

I'm pre-op and have been on Depo for more than a year. I have had only one period and it was normal for me. But everyone is different...you should let your doctor know what is going on. If you take a medication to improve a situation you shouldn't feel like you are suffering. I had a friend who had normal periods but took the pill when she got a boyfriend and then she got cramps and non-stop bleeding it's like the pill had the opposite effect on her. Since a lot of people take them to relieve cramps and regulate bleeding.

Depo was definitely NOT for me. I had a constant period for over three months. Then I had NO period for for months. And I didn't get a second shot! I liked not having to take a BCP (they're not reliable after surgery anyway) but it just wasn't worth it!

I was on depo prior to and for 3 months after surgery. My last shot was within 10 days post-op. I bled from Sept 30, 2002 to Jan 20, 2003. Badly. Very disgusting. But, my body wouldn't stop no matter how much pressure I applied to my wound! :~) Hang in there. It has nothing to do with depo, has everything to do with the changes your body is going through. Prior to surgery I had spotted periods during depo. Normal for me. Maybe for you too. Good luck! 8/9/02, 295/184/150

I bled for 6 months straight on the depo.This is a common side effect.No more depo for me.

on the first shot i had normal periods by the time i got the second shot i bleed for three months straight. good luck. kimberly open distal bypass 11/12/02 -70lbs
