Question:
My PCP gives my phone number to others
My PCP asked and I was happy to help others considering surgery. He gives out my phone number and no one calls. I was thinking of putting together a one page mini profile with our before and after photos here, a real brief bio, the address here, and my phone number. Basically a sales brochure for the good WLS can do and did for us. What do you all think? Anyone else done anything like that? I would give my PCP some and he could hand them out. Ideas and suggestionsa will be greatly appreciated. — bob-haller (posted on March 16, 2003)

I think It is a great idea. I would have LOVED to received some information
like that when I started all this. In fact it Still would. I know
absolutely no one in my area who has done this or is doing this WLS and
feel like this web site is the only place to ask questions or even vent
feelings. I say Go for it!! What a great person you must be!!

I think that's a great idea! I know how much talking to someone (who had
been post op, when I was pre,) was so helpful! On the negative side, I've
met people who want my phone#, give it, and they want to talk 24/7 and be
my best friend, talk about non wls things (as some are lonely), which is
very time consuming.(not to be mean) It's a helpful idea, but are you up
for it if you have many calls coming in per day and perhaps some that will
latch on to you?

I think that is a great idea, my pcp and I discuss wls at lengths, I have
read as much as I can on this subject, and researched it and continue to
learn so much, the majority of it here at obesityhelp :0) When she wrote
her letter of approval she told my insurance company that she has never had
a patient so self educated on wls, and has mentioned that after my surgery
she would like for me to talk with her patients that need wls. I think
the profile idea is a fabulous idea, I'm glad you posted the question.
Infact your profile has been my guiding light, and such an insperation too
all :0) Good luck to you.

Thanks for the support and kind words. I do admit the time pressure but my
PCP refers only SELECTED patients for WLS. Besides I screen my calls:( I
already have some of those kind. My life is VERY busy.
