Question:
Is hair loss a threat after 5 months?

I'm 5 months out. I haven't lost any hair, thank God. I'm just wondering if I'm out of the woods yet. The people who lost hair generally seem to have lost it around the 4-month mark. Should I still be worried or am I out of the woods?    — Mariee H. (posted on March 14, 2003)

I beleive your never out of the woods you must be taking good care of yourself and you want to keep up the good work. but always be prepared to lose a little hair....

I wouldn't sa out of the woods..I didn't start losing my hair till I was 6 1/2 months postop and it continued until I was 9 months postop and then bam..it stopped and my hair grew back fine :) I've lost hair with every surgery i've ever had so getting over 100 grams of protein per day never helped..I think if it's gonna go..it's gonna go..hopefully you can be one of the lucky ones! :)

Lucky you! :) I actually started losing hair at about 4 months out and I still have a little trace of it at 9.5 months out. I also have PCOS and I've always "shed" more than most, so who knows what to blame it on at this point. I wish you luck and hope you missed the hair loss totally :)

Hi there, Mariee! I am almost 6 months out and I started about a week and a half ago, so I don't think it matters how far out anyone is. Like one poster said, "if it's gonna go, it's gonna go". I have upped my protein started biotin and nothing, so I cut my hair to try to hide the loss a little. All the other surgeries I have ever had, I NEVER lost hair, and now I do, it is either the weight loss or the hormones or both! Sorry for the disappointing news, but it can happen. Hope it doesn't for you though! Vi. open RNY 9/23/02 down 113 lbs.

Mariee, there is no rhyme or reason to hair loss. I am 7 mos out, haven't lost a hair. All my friends in support group have and have been losing for months, they all think they are going bald. If your protein is way up and you never lost hair before when losing weight, I would say youa reprobably out of the wood, KNOCK ON WOOD. Good Luck. Heather (Open RNY 8/15 - 305/205/150)

My hair loss didn't start until 10 1/2 months out. And it's still continuing now, in month 13.
