Question:
Another post-op eating question...
Hi everybody,
I am 2 months out and have lost 72 lbs, as of my 6 week checkup and feeling really good. I started out with a BMI of 81 and now it is 69. Now for my question...
I can eat approximately 2 ounces of food per meal. Here's an example of what I eat in a day:
Breakfast: 1 scrambled egg Lunch: 2 oz tuna or chicken or turkey or fish Dinner: 2 oz tuna or chicken or turkey or fish
I cannot eat anymore than that. I cannot tolerate any of the protein shakes I have tried so far. I cannot tolerate beef or pork of any kind. I know I am probably not eating enough (about 400 calories per day), but this is the most food I can eat in a day, and at times I have to choose to give up one of those meals so I can get all my vitamins and medications in each day. Now, I realize I am only 2 months post-op and my pouch will stretch naturally over time, but is this the way everyone else was at 2 months also? I get in most of my water now and do not eat carbs at this stage of the game, per my surgeon's instructions. If I know everyone went thru this "no room for much" stage, I'll feel alot better. — thumpiez (posted on March 12, 2003)

Christie - Actually, I still can't get in the calories that my nutritionist
wants me to get in each day (1000 at almost 8 months). Some suggestions
to get in more calories is to go to 5-6 small meals instead of the current
3. You can also drink some OJ or other juices as tolerated to add some
calories to your diet...JR (open RNY 07/17 -157 calories)

Enjoy it while it lasts. In another 2 months you will be able to eat
anything, and you will want to also. This too shall pass...

This is very normal. Your pouch will eventually stretch a little and you
will be able to eat more. I believe John mentioned maybe to eat smaller
meals more often. This is what I do and have been successful. I know you
said you eat about 2oz 3 meals a day. How about if you do like 1 1/2 oz 5
times a day? That way you are getting in a little more protein. I know the
protein shakes are bad, I hated them all, too. Have you tried ISOPURE? It
comes pre-bottled, each bottle is 40grams of protein. Now it doesn't taste
thaaaat great- I'll be honest. What I like about it is it is more like a
kool-aid/watery drink than a thick shake, so it goes down easy. Definately
try to eat more often if you can, that way you can add some more calories.
But just like the previous poster said- enjoy it while you can. The
honeymoon period stops at about 6 months, and then you will probably start
to get hungry again. Congrats on a truly excellent weight loss! Goodluck to
you!
