Question:
What Can You Eat When You Have Stomach Upset

I've had diarrhea and loud growling noises the past 2 days. I think it might be iron or vitamin issues. The thing is that I'm starving and I am afraid to eat anything. I have to go out this afternoon and feel woozy from not eating. Any suggestions for nutrition and/or relief from this? I'm feeling mighty miseraable.    — susanje (posted on March 9, 2003)

Susan, I had the same thing you are talking about when I was about 6 weeks post-op, so for two days I didn't eat. However, on the third day I had to eat. As soon as I started eating I felt much better. It turns out everytime I don't eat I get this feeling. What I'm trying to say is eat something and it may go away. You body may be trying to tell you something. Don't know if it will work for you, but it worked for me. Bless you.

My surgeon suggested that I eat a little macaroni and cheese and some chicken noodle soup when I had a bad bout of diahrrea. I ate the soup and skipped the mac and cheese since pasta makes me dump. But I did eat some cheese. He told me NOT to take anything like Pepto Bismol or Immodium. I was about 5 months post-op and improved after a day.

Try some soft scrambled eggs with melted cheese. I think you would feel better if you ate. An empty stomach is not a good thing, no wonder your woozy. Are you at least drinking plenty of water/tea?

Any time I have had tummy issues, early post-op and even now, I rely on Celestial Seasonings Peppermint Tea (make mine w/Splenda). It is so incredibly soothing to your tummy. The warmth and the peppermint both are heavenly!!! Also, as for food, I still to this day eat a yogurt everyday. I think it calms a lot of tummy issues as it adds good bacteria. You can also take your vitamins with it! I personally prefer Blue Bunny Lite 85. Try the tea though -- it is awesome! Hope you're feeling much better real soon! - Anna LAP RNY 7/3/02 -117lbs.
