Question:
Has the issue of insurance discrimination and obesity addressed in the media?
Has anyone ever seen the issue of insurance discrimination and "exclusion clauses" addressed in the media? I haven't. Recently I wrote to the Montel Williams Show and they "may contact me regarding my story idea". Has anyone else thought of contacting national media with this plight? Is so, who did you call? Was it well recieved? Do you think calling attention to the issue in this way will help? I pay good money for my insurance and I am sick and tired (literally). I'm also tired of being ignored. — Klynn D. (posted on March 7, 2003)

Oklahoma has. I have contacted all of are news stations and still no luck.

could think of and still no response. I am willing to get something started

In spite of the fact that the surgeon general declared war on obesity in
December of 2001 - it's an unfortunate reality that open ridicule and
discrimination of the obese (including denial of health benefits) is the
last publicly acceptable, politically correct area for discrimination.
I've also tried to get local media involved but have had no luck. Hang in
there, though, you sound like you just might be the one to get through!
Best wishes!

I am willing to help in any way. I work in the media for a major network.
I have been thinking about this for a little while as well. Perhaps if we
all put our heads together we can come up with something. There are a few
Celebs out there who have opened the door to talking about Obesity, but of
course they don't have the insurance problems us normal folks have. Feel
free to contact me with any ideas/questions at [email protected]
..all my best, aimee

I have not contacted any shows but two contacted me. Ricki Lake which I
would never consider doing and John Walsh. I have no ideal how they got my
email and I was having gastric bypass except maybe saw my profile. I didnt
do either because it was only a week notice to the taping.. I would have
considered John Walsh.
