Question:
do slow loosers have less sagging
Hi all, I am 3 months pre-op and have 2 questions.1. The impression I have gotten from reading the Q&A list everyday for the past 3 months is that lightweights tend to be slow loosers, is this correct and 2. if so do slow loosers have less problems post-op with sagging skin ? And to add a 3rd question what can you do about sagging besides surgery? And last but not least an announcment " I GOT APPROVED!!!!" Just got my insurance approval yesterday and feel the need to shout it from the roof tops! Thanks Lindsay Fulmer — Lindsay F. (posted on February 28, 2003)

Lindsay, let me be the first to congratulate you on your approval. Before
you know it, you'll be a loser like the rest of us! Now to answer a few of
your questions..lightweights have less to lose, so in most cases, not all,
they lose slower but still get to goal. I think the slow losing helps with
less sagging skin but other things contribute, like how overweight are you,
how long were you overweight, have you had kids (pregnancy can cause loose
skin/muscles in the tummy), your age (young skin tends to bounce back
quicker), genes (some are just darn lucky) etc. I lost fairly slowly - 95
pounds in a year, and had not been overweight my entire life, and had lost
weight before and the skin bounced back. Not this time! As for what you
can do after you have saggy skin, obviously plastic surgery, however, some
say that with lots of exercise you can shape it some. I'm not sure I agree
with that...

Hi Lindsay...congrats on your approval! I'll put my 2 cents in
on this subject. I was a "lightweight" and I lost weight
without
WLS (My pcp said I hadn't tried enough things yet, so I follow
a low carb, high protein diet and run a lot). Needless to say,
I was a SLOW loser!!! I lost about 80 lbs in 14 months. I have had
no problems with saggy skin at all. Although, I think age may have
a small part to play in it. I was 19 when I lost my weight, I'm 21 now,
and
have been at goal for almost 2 years.
