Question:
Can we still take our normal OTC vitamins and supplements for a cold?
Normally when I am getting a cold I use Vicam, large doses of Vitamin C, zinc and echinecea. Can we still take these or no? — susanje (posted on February 27, 2003)

Large doses of vitamin C can create a problem with ulceration. Ask your
physician before doing so. I've noticed that I need less medication since
surgery, usually half a does of OTC drugs. I've been able to take most
OTC drugs since my surgery with no problems, once the surgical swelling
went down.

I recommend Zicam Cold remedy for
colds. My nutritionist receommended
this nasel gel at our first group session for bariatric surgery patients.
It is a little pricy-- anywhere from $9.00 to $15.00, but it really helps
kill a cold quickly. I use it
instead of the Zinc Lozenges I used to take before the surgery.
