Question:

These pills are so small...I was wondering if anybody is still taking them without complication? — Kerry R. (posted on February 24, 2003)

I take Topamax. It says sprinkle on my capsules so I assume you can open
them and mix if you need to. The dr that prescribed is monitoring the dose
so that if the absorption rate drops He will up the dosage to get mor in.
BTW Do they make you sleepy. I take two 25 mg a night and I am out within
30 minutes after taking them

I take Welbutrin, Nexium and sometimes a vitamin cut in half....all in pill
form. I have absolutely no problems with them. Today I even took 2
Ibuprofen tablets. I am 4 weeks post-op.

yes, I take 100mg tablets 3x a day. I swallow them whole. I don't have
any problems at all.

I took them for a while for chronic headaches. I never had a problem, then
again, I also can take huge calcium pills. I've been taking my pills since
the day I got out of surgery, guess I am lucky I can manage! Also, my
neurologist almost didn't want me to have the RNY b/c topamaz is associated
with weight loss. He said that he's had patients lose up to 50 lbs. while
taking this. SO it may help speed weight loss, too!

Topamax does have a side affect of weight loss but its because it affects
your appetite. If you're trying to get in your supplements, enough
protein, and eating foods that aren't your top choice anyhow it might
actually be more of a problem than a help. Afterall, your RNY already
gives you portion control. By the way, I find it interesting you take it
for headaches. My personal experience was for post traumatic stress
syndrom (not my own though). It was plain scarey having to practically
force feed someone to get them to eat anything at all. It also did make
her really sleepy and kind of "out there". She was on it both
morning and night.
