Question:
Has the surgery helped thier FMS?
Has thier pain level lessened? How are they doing with the nutrients? — Jody V. (posted on January 21, 2003)

Hi Jody. I am still pre-surgery but from what I understand:
The trauma of surgery MAY cause a flare.
The weight loss WILL allow you to exercise more (which definately does
improve FMS)
Losing weight will probably eliminate sleep apnea (using a cpap means you
pretty much just lie on your back all night)which doesn't help morning
stiffness!!!
I don't know about nutrients, I would like to know the answer to that too.
Please let me know what you find out. Thanks.

Thankfully, I didn't have a flare following the trauma of surgery. I've
only had one very minor flare in the 25 months since my surgery. I don't
know if I'm the exception or the rule but it's been WONDERFUL! I can only
wish the same degree of success for you!!

The pain level has lessened, but I attribute it to being able to exercise,
and the lessening amount of weight on my bones. I still have "fibro
fogs" but I attribute that more to whether I have slept enough hours
and whether it was restful sleep or not. It does not hurt the FMS thats
for sure.

Knock on wood, I haven't had a flare int he 4 months since surgery! I am
off all meds, and have been feeling wonderful. I was a miserable mess
before surgery. I couldn't walk to my mailbox without a lot of pain. Now
I'm able to walk 3 miles with little to no pain. I do get tired, but that's
a lot of excercise compared to what I used to be able to do. I also go to
Curves for Women amd find that that has helped as well. I have lost 70
pounds, and that, I'm sure, has helped the fibro. I sleep better, no more
snoring! I have more energy, and where the pain at times was a 9 or 10, I
now experience 1's or 2's! I feel great being off all the meds. I'm not
groggy from the sleeping pills, the muscle relaxants, the pain relievers,
etc... Life, finally, is good!
Best of luck to you!
