I was wondering if working the night shift slows down the weight loss? — train (posted on January 18, 2003)

I worked the night shift a couple of years, in fact, this is where I jumped
about 75lbs. After surgery I quit for 6 mo. to work on me and then came
back on 4p-12a. Do you have a job where you sit around munching? Mine is,
and I have to pack really healthy choices. Also though I believe you do eat
more and night shift has been proven to mess up our "body clock"
and that would affect metabolizism. Don't be too hard on yourself though, I
have gone from 264lbs (size 24) to 160lbs (size 10-12)and still am losing a
couple of pounds a month.

I too work nights, both before and after surgery. My weight loss has been
very steady for the past 4 months, about 3 lbs each week. I don't think of
this as slow. I have found that by having my protein shake at work, I'm
doing a much better job of getting in all my protein. I also found that I'm
getting in all my water on the nights I work. But on the days I'm off I
have a tough time doing these things. I can't figure it out. I have kept
away from all sugar since surgery but there are days when I crave carbs and
really need to watch them. I guess you have to set up your own schedule of
when to eat on days when you're working verses when you are off. I don't
think working nights has anything to do wiht how you lose. Everyone loses
at different rates. Good luck !

I have worked nights for years. I work 3p to 7a. On my first day back, I
am awake 24 hours. Talk about hard to eat right.haha. My weight lose has
been ok. I have gone from 317 to 193. I haven't lost anything really in
the last 2 months. I think it has more to do with my noncompliance than
working nights. The thing I find so hard about nights is that sometimes I
eat just to stay awake. That is a trap.. Go luck to you.
