Question:
I have never been on a medically supervised diet.
Has anyone who has Tricare Prime been able to get around this? My BMI is 47. My surgeon will do the surgery if I can get approved. — Tamara M. (posted on January 18, 2003)

I have Tricare Prime, don't stress over the documentation of weight loss
programs. Tricare Prime does in NO way offer any education, treatment
approval for weightloss. I not 100% sure, but if they do not approve help
to lose weight they can not ask to have prove of a medically supervised
diet. Alot of insurance companies do ask for documentation but I think you
will be fine, yesterday in my weight seminar that very question came up and
the surgeon said not to worry about it with Tricare. But your surgeons
office people can tell you what they will need. Tricare needs medically
necessity. Hope this helps. Also, check out the Insurance section on this
website, and it might help you, there are alot of information from people
that have tricare insurance.
