Question:
Can your Gallbladder affect your weightloss?
I am having pain sometimes below my bra on the right side, and I am not losing. — T W. (posted on January 12, 2003)

I have heard that after you get your gall bladder out, it can actually be
harder to lose weight. I had mine taken out at 16 years old, and I did
notice that the weight did not come off as easy anymore. I had to struggle
more. But, I ran into someone the other day, and her husband had his gall
bladder out about a year or so ago. He went from extremely heavy, to this
tiny little guy. He could no longer tolerate certain fatty foods after they
took it out and he lost a ton of weight. So....I don't know what the real
verdict is on it. You need to go in and see if it is your gall bladder
acting up though. Most bariatric surgeons will take it out during surgery,
just because when you lose a log of weight fast, it can cause gall stones.
The pain from gall stones was absolutely unbearable, and I felt it all over
my stomach and back. Almost like horrible diarrhea cramps. I have heard
others explain the pain differently though. Well...good luck! (open RNY

I still have my gallblader, but, i will tell you that my close friend (had
surgery with same dtr 4 mos apart) had her's out with surgery and she is
down 140 lbs from 320. She is very close to goal in 9 months, however, she
cannot eat the same things I can. She has trouble with meat, chicken and
any diary product.
