Question:
Has anyone had a baby after surgery? How long did you wait? How was it?
Were there any complications? Was the baby healthy? How much weight did you gain and how long did it take to lose again afterwards? — Philippa F. (posted on January 8, 2003)

My daughter had her RNY in January, 2000. She got pregnant 22 months later
(our surgeon recommends that his patients wait 18 months post-op before
becoming pregnant) and had a beautiful and healthy baby girl in July. Our
bariatric surgeon made the recommendation to her OB physician that she
double her prenatal vitamins daily, and draw labs every two months during
the pregnancy. Her labs remained perfect throughout the pregnancy, and the
pregnancy was problem-free. She did have to have a C-section, but that was
totally unrelated to the WLS. She gained almost 40 lbs. during the
pregnancy, and when she went back for her six-week post-partum checkup, she
was only 4 lbs. above her pre-pregnancy weight. The baby is now 6 months
old, and my daughter has lost an additional 15 pounds and is ready for her
tummy tuck....she has lost a total of 235 ounds since her WLS....feels
great and looks great. Best wishes!

Hi there...I had surgery 3 years ago and I got pregnant with twins at 17
months post-op. I had the babies on the anniversary of my WLS date on
1/13/02. They were 9 weeks premature but not because of the surgery...just
happened. But they are healthy wonderful little boys and are turning 1 yr
old on Monday. I gained 27lbs with the pregancy and was back to my original
weight 2 weeks later.
