Question:
I am 4 weeks post-op tomorrow, and am wondering if anyone is tired all of the time.
I can sleep from 8-10hrs a night. Get up in the morning, take my vitamins with iron, do a little house work, and be tired and ready to take a nap. This is not normal...any suggestions? — kacy G. (posted on January 7, 2003)

Well it can be normal for some people. How much protein are you getting
in???? Have your blood work done and see where your b-12 is at. Are you
drinking enough water??? 64 ozs. or more......??

I am 3 months post-op, and was also very tired. I think it's a pretty
normal reaction to the surgery, and not getting the food that our bodies
had become used to. I started getting to feel my more normal level energy
at about 8 weeks out, and now I really feel back to my old self.

Hi. I am tired ALL the time. I don't know if it's because of the surgery
or it might be my anemia. You might want to check your blood count with
your doctor. Although I am taking care of the anemia with medication I am
still feeling tired. I am 5 weeks post-op and it isn't getting that much
better. That's why I made an appt. with the doc this week. Good Luck :)

I know this sounds silly, cause it takes a lot of energy to get up and do
this, but if you exercise a little everyday, it could help. I started
walking a month post-op, not vigorous, but just a little, and I was
surprised that my energy level really boosted. Good luck!

Give yourself a break, you just had serious surgery. I'd bet your surgeon
or PCP wouldn't be a bit surprised to hear you are still feel fatigued at
only four weeks post-op. I went back to work half-days at six weeks post-op
and still became tired very easily. I was many weeks post-op before I
actually felt the energy surge. Lori (06/20/02 308/217)

I am 4 weeks post op today as well. I do get tired quickly. I started
walking on my treadmill at 2 weeks and that has helped a little. I get
pooped just taking a shower. It wears me out. I just make myself get out of
the house and try to keep busy. I do a little and rest a little all day
long. Hang in there it will pass. I am looking forward to having energy
again. 4 weeks -26#'s

It is totally normal to be this tired.. I am 11 months post op and it was
a good 8 or 9 weeks until I didnt feel drugged anymore.. Your body had been
thru a whole lot plus its had a lot of drugs. Listen to your body and rest
when it tells you to.

Sweetie, it is so normal it's pathetic. I am almost 7 weeks post-op, down
45 pounds. I am constantly tired. The only time I get some energy is when
I am at the gym. After that I am sleepy and exhausted again. I went back
to work on Monday of this week and had to leave early because my body was
dead. Thank God I have an understanding boss. Do not worry. It is
perfectly normal.

After my revision, I still napped for 6 weeks. And I was normal weight,
doing 180g of protein supps a day! Major surgery knocks your sox off. Don't
be mad at your body for wanting to rest. However, you gotta be doing some
protein & WATER. Amazing how much water helps. I've finally noticed if
I feel slightly headachey or weak, water seems to perk me up. You may need
more iron than is in your multi, of course. Or it could be a combo of all I
mentioned and all below, too.
