Question:
Help! I am 5 1/2 months post op and have lost 109 pounds. I am not losing any
more weight. Could my weight loss have stopped? Will I continue losing or is this it? I drink water and walk 2 times 5 times a week. I hope that because I am at 6 months I will not stop completely. Please advise me. Thanks. — Judy W. (posted on January 2, 2003)

Stop stressing over this. The weight loss is not over! I know that it
slows significantly at this point but this is also a time when some people
experience terribly long plateaus. Keep up with the exercise, eat healthy,
think protein (supplements or your diet) and hang in there. You'll make
it!

Hi Judy, Is this weight that you are currently stuck at a weight that you
were at for a long time pre-op? I noticed that my plateaus corresponded
very closely to weights that I had been at for a long time. 230 took me a
couple of months to bust, and I had weighed 230 for about 10 years. Don't
dispair, your body is just adjusting. Good Luck!

You have lost a significant amount of weight in a very short period of
time. Your body is trying to catch up with it. It will start again, but
when its ready. You are too new a post-op for this to be it. Keep up with
the water, exercise and lots of protein and eventually it will start up
again. Remember the window is up to 18 months.

I am at 5 months down 90 lbs. and about a month ago, I got the flu, dropped
8 lbs. and then sat there, the scale actually went up 2-3 lbs. I know it's
easy to get upset, but you have to remind yourself that you are doing
everything right, and it's just a temporary thing. Also, remember the old
days when we would be on a diet? We also platued, only then we would have
given up and gained 10 lbs back in a week. Your weight loss so far is
great, keep up the hard work and it will start up agian.

Judy, I am so glad you asked this question, I have been freaking out over
the same thing. I am 7 months post op and have lost 102 lbs and I keep
thinking, this is it. I know it is it. I worry about it all the time. It
is nice to know there are other people out there having the same issues and
worries that I have. Good luck to both of us.
