Question:
What is good for a quick breakfast besides cereal and Proteinex, liquid protein?
Before surgery, I ate cereal for breakfast every morning. If I don't get any protein early on I am soooooo tired. I can't stand the taste of Proteinex liquid anymore. Any suggestions for a good quick breakfast? — Trisha W. (posted on December 31, 2002)

hiya. i always start my day with:
1 tbls Jarrows Iso Rich Soy Protein Powder (flavorless), 1/2 scoop EAS
Advantage Chocolate Whey Protein Powder, 6 oz coffee and heavy whipping
cream. packs about 30g of protein in! i can't start my day without it.
then around 8:30 my breakfast of choice lately has been 1/2 peanut butter
sandwich...hey it's protein! and getting in some carbs/fats but not bad.
i have some good recipes on my website, one i love is Bacon Pie...it is

Kashi Go Lean cereal with protein and lactaid fatfree milk is good, I also
eat yogurt with 2 T of wheat germ on top to give it a crunchy flavor.

Hard boiled eggs (any kind of eggs), cottage cheese, cheddar or motzerella
(sp) brick cheese that you slice, cheese sticks (the string cheese), egg
salad.

Cereal with ProBlend 55 vanilla (made with water) works nicely. Then you
get both.

Grape Nuts have 5 grams of protein per 1/2 cup serving and include the
bonus of fiber! I sometimes eat mine with milk, or eat 1/4 cup mixed with 1
container of Blue Bunny Lite 85 Yogurt...yummy!

Kashi Go Lean Crunch cereal with regular or soy milk, eggs, cheese, yogurt
sprinkled with granola or my old stand-by...cheese and crackers.

The first thing I needed to do was deprogram my brain about what was an
acceptable breakfast food. I now cook extra meat (roast, chicken,
whatever) and leave it in the fridge for a quickie breakfast on the go.
Cottage cheese is a great quick breakfast, and sometimes I cut up peaches
or some other fruit in it for a variation. Moz sticks, boiled eggs, Hebrew
brand all beef (low-carb) hotdogs, beef jerky, turkey jerky, sliced
pepperoni, wafer lunchmeat rolled up with cheese, cream cheese on melba
toast, peanut butter on crackers (or celery sticks) are all great quick
breakfasts. Good luck!

I found that I was not getting enough protein in everyday, so I started
eating Chicken or Turkey and cheese for breakfast. 1 egg has 7 grams of
protein but 3 oz of chicken has 21 grams.....I don't do it everyday but at
least 4 or 5 times a week.

I usually have one serving of Special K (dry). It has 7 grams of protein
and 22 carbs. (I consider it my high carb item of the day.) Sometimes
I'll have cashews. I don't like cottage cheese, most yogurts have too much
sugar for me, and I got burnt out on eggs. :P I'm just starting to be able
to eat cheese again so I may start having that as a breakfast food. Good
Luck! Lisa open rny 4/26/02 -117lbs

Hi, Ruth is 100% right. Forget about what food is for what meal. My added 2
cents is, as for me, I like my sleep, so on work days I get up and 6 am and
have to leave by 6:30 to get to work ontime. What I have been doing is
making either of these things, cheese toast ( i put 2 slices on it and use
the ultra thin bread so I can eat it) or, an idea I got from here, I take
yogurt and add a high protein cereal to it (and eat it at work) I have also
done the slices of left over chicken. Here is my most bazzar but I love it.
I take a square fish stick ( like you would make a sandwhich from), cook
it, put a hunk of cheese on it and I can eat that on my way to work. Hope
this helps, looks like you got lots of great suggestions!!

I love breakfast. It is my favorite meal. I like to scramble fry some
sausage(our local store has very low fat sausage) with some eggs and bell
peppers. I wrap it in a tortilla with cheese and picante sauce. You can
make it up and put it in the fridge for a few days. Just pop it in the
microwave to warm it up and its great. I find that cereal leaves me hungery
in an hour or so, but this holds its own. Good luck.

I used to be a cereal eater too. Now I have the same breakfast every am..1
scrambled egg with a slice of melted provolone and a tablespoon of chili on
top (salsa works too). All melted together it is filling and full of
protein. I usually make 2 scrambled at a time, and put the 2nd 1/2 of what
I made into a tupperware to pop in the microwave for the next day. Another
quick on the go breakfast-a protein bar.

My new favorite -- Kashi waffles from the frozen food section w/Carey's no
sugar syrup. Yum yum. 8 gms of protein (2 waffles) and lots of good fiber
to keep the pipes working.

My easy breakfasts are: A boiled egg, A string cheese, whatever we had for
dinner, a little bit of quiche, some heat and serve sausage, or a protien
drink. Don't just think cereal. I never liked it anyway ;)
