Question:
When do we (on average) go down in clothes sizes?

Im wondering if anyone can share their experience with me regarding weight loss and the clothes size changing? I guess Im kinda frustrated because Im down about 45-48 lbs. I had open RNY on 10-28. Yes, Im happy about the weight loss but surprised Im still wearing the same clothes, they just fit better and looser. Will it take the next 50 lbs to start having fun seeing smaller sizes? I know we are all different, but I started out at 295 and now am about 250. I am 5'5......thanks!    — Gina_Lea (posted on December 28, 2002)

Gina- I don't think I bought new clothes until I was down about 50#. I used to be a 24-26 pant and 30-32 shirt. When I did finally get new stuff I realized I'm down to XL pants or 18 elastic waist and 2X or 22-24 shirts. I was amazed! I have read some stuff about weight loss and sizing and it seems that the smaller you are the quicker you go down sizes when you lose.

Hey don't worry! My surgery was 10-29 and I'm down 53# and my clothes are very loose and I can wear things that were way too tight beforehand. And 2 words here - UNDER WEAR! Are your britches a bit baggy now??? That's were I saw it first..funny as it seems...my undies fell down below my butt! And if you were like me, my clothes before were just a tad too tight ;)!

Hey!!! I'm almost 4 mo. post-op. To answer the question, I seem to get smaller every single day. I LOVE getting smaller and smaller clothes. From a 30 to a 22. I'm in the single digit underwear sizes now! From 347 to 254 so far...93 down, 100 to go......

I noticed when I was in the 20-24 (2x,3x,4x) I could wear those clothes a long time. But once I got to 18, geesh, now its like every ten pounds I drop a size. Maybe the larger clothes are cut more generous so we dont "think" we are big as we are L)

This is a good question because even after a year im still guessing sizes and weight. with me, i started at 280 & I was wearing a 26 and continued to wear this size as I wasnt going to buy any clothes i refused to buy clothes until i noticed a difference, it seemed like forever to get to sizes 20 & 18 which was the next size i had in my closet to wear, i was down to about 220 and that is when i really started to notice the changes in me however, this lasted forever .. after a bit i noticed my levi jeans size 20 were getting baggy and also the 18s i had so i finally went down to mervins and baught a size 16 i was soo exciting i could fit into a 16 but this is all i baught i just continued to wear what i had and also some friends gave me some clothes. now i was about 188 i limited myself as far as buying clothes because its senseless to spend money on them and then give them away, when i got down to 16 it seemed like the clothes were getting bigger faster it was weird because you start out thinking why isnt things moving fast enough to omg im shrinking fast lol...before i knew it at 175 i was wearing 14s.. then at 160 i could fit in 12s and now at 151 im wearing 10s these are all levi jeans if you go with liz clayborn you can actually get into a smaller size. im wearing size med shirts but also large depends on the maker .. hope this helps ...

I have noticed that it takes more of a loss to drop in size the larger you are. Meaning it took 50lbs for me to go from a 24 to a 22, and 15 to go from a tight 10 to an 8. The closer you get to goal, the more you will fly through sizes.

Well my story is that I started a size 22/24 and didn't lose a size until I lost 30 pounds! I thought that was quite a lot. I thought I should have been down more than one size. The good part is that I then within 3 weeks lost another size into an 18. So inside one month I went from 22/24 to size 18. I agree with others that say that the heavier you are the more it takes to lose a dress size. Then as you get smaller they come off more readily.
