Question:
I want to have the VBG procedure, my insurance is HealthNet.

Can anyone suggest a doctor in North NJ? Also, if you had this procedure, are you satified or did you go on to have further surgery? Complications? Thanks. This site and the people involved are really special. I have learned so much and I can't wait to be further along in the process! Merry Xmas!    — corkee (posted on December 25, 2002)

My surgeon says and I believe him the VBG failure rate over 5 years is 80%. Our surgeons practice ois filled with VBG revisions. I suggest if your really dedicated to this surgery you look into the Lap Band. Its newer, reversible, and adjustable. I choose the RNY since its the gold stadard according to the bariatic surgeons group. Has the best lomng term loss and success rate. Given all this some VBG patients do well. But its hard for them to eat good food while junk food sklides right in easy. MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I had the VBG on Nov 22nd, 2002 I have lost over 25 pounds, I beleive in my heart that this was the right tool for me. You can not go by satistics, eat procedure has a down fall, I can not imagine failing at this, I just can not see it, why would I push to see what I can eat and gain back this weight. I know I can survive a healthy life. I don't need candy, chips, and I dont need to stuff myself anymore. I am quit gradified. Do your research and the best of luck.

Hello Randee.........I had the VBG in April of 2001. Things went well for the most part, but my staple line recently ruptured, and I am in the process of approval for a revision to an RNY. I hear, in the long run, that would be the best for ME. You need to do what is right for YOU. Listen to your heart and follow it. Good Luck to you!!!
