I think about 50-75 cm. It's a matter of how much is bypassed. My
understanding is that the distal is usually 150cm by passed and the regular
is around 100cm bypassed. The greater the BMI is usually when the distal
is used to ensure greater weight loss.

Distal refers to how much intestine is bypassed. I had 150cm and am
considered as distal. Many doctors are now moving to this as the normal
amount. There are advantages and disadvantages to being distal. The more
you have bypassed the more calories you will malabsorb, so have have a
greater chance of success. The bad part is you the more distal you are the
more vitamins and nutrients you will malabsorb so you will have to be more
careful about taking supplements daily. I was considered as a lightweight
with a BMI of 40.
