Question:
Sublingual or injections of B12?
I'm about 6 weeks post op and feeling extremely tired most of the time. Is this normal? Wondering if the injections of B12 are better acting than the sublingual that Im currently taking? Any other suggestions? Im taking all my necessarey supplements too, including eating right, or atleast trying. Thanks in advance for any feedback! — Gina_Lea (posted on December 14, 2002)

It's more likely you're just drained from the surgery itself. But your PCP
would probably run your B12 level for you if you asked. It's a very cheap
test, so he probably wouldn't mind. If it's below 400, ask for shots &
learn to do them yourself. It's very simple. The sulinuals work perfectly
for some people & not so well for others.

I take the injections myself, though I have a neighbor that is a nurse do
them. Don't know if it's true, but I always heard they were to be given in
the muscle, hip for me. I get mine once a month, and know when it is
time.Good luck...

Hi: I too suffered from low energy a few months out. My PCP ran blood
tests and found I was low on B12 and iron. I now take B12 shots twice a
month (my neighbor is a nurse and is kind enough to administer the shot)
and an iron supplement (liguid) once a day as well as my multi vitamins
(liquid Centrum).

The liquid placed under my tongue seems to work fine for me. I have also
had problems with fatigue and headaches when I don't get enough iron. At 6
weeks post you are probably just getting used to life post op but it would
be worth it to get tested. Why suffer if you don't have to?
