Hello,
Yes! I went into surgery knowing that we would start out "lap",
but also knew that if it could not be done that way we would have to go
with the "open".... My surgeon tried, but after about 2 hours of
"lap" and my liver giving him fits, he decided that the best way
to go would be to go ahead and do the "open".... Ok, I admit I
was not happy when I woke up, but I knew going in that this might
happen....now, after 3 weeks post-op, I have forgiven my "liver"
for causing problems and I am very, very glad that I did this!! If you have
any questions, e-mail me... I'm always around! Love and light,

Hi there, Pam! I was also supposed to have a lap, when I woke up and was
more conscience of my surroundings I realized I had been opened! My
surgeon told me it could happen because of my size as well. It took a
little longer in healing, but I pulled through. Vi open RNY 9/23/02 down
79 lbs.

Yes, I was suppose to be lap. But I ended up being open. The doctor could
not get the last connection to seal off correctly. I ended up being in
surgery around 8 hours because he tried so hard to do it lap. But I did
not have a leak. I would do it again. I am 19 months post op.
