Question:
Wondering if anyone has heard of a weight loss surgery called a mason shunt?
It was a surgery used in the 70's, I have a client that says she's had it but can find no info on it. I am 1 yr. post op open RNY, 244 lbs gone — Kathy A. (posted on December 10, 2002)

Hi Kathy,
I have no idea, but you may want to e-mail Dr. Simpson, he may be able to
give you a good idea what it is all about.

Hello. My mother had the mason shunt in 1976. It is very similar to the
RNY but the staple line is in a different place. It is horizontal instead
of vertical. The surgeon that created it is EE Mason and is retired but
still on staff at some hospital in Chicago I believe. My mother spoke with
him via email about a year ago. Email me if you want more info.
