Question:
Does Dr. Brian Lane perform lap RNY anywhere in MI?
I've read on this site that Dr. Lane has experience in the lap RNY. But I also know that BTC-MI is only currently performing open RNY (according to the contact person there, it was because this procedure has not been 'endorsed' by the National Institute of Health yet...when it is, they will perform it...????). I am really thinking that I want to go with the lap procedure. Thanks ! — Jenny M. (posted on December 7, 2002)

I don't have Dr. Lane but I am having my surgery at BTC on Monday. When I
went to my initial consult with Dr. Touissant I asked her why they don't do
LAP RNY. I don't remember which ones they were but she said that some of
the complication rate percentages with LAP are a little higher then BTC in
comfortable with.

I work with Dr. Lane and he is not performing lap RNY at this time. You
can call the Ypsilanti BTC at this time to find out if and when it might be
planned in the future.

I'm not sure if this is still accurate, but, when I had my surgery 1 year
ago (11/29/01) Dr. Kevin Krause was the only Surgeon performing the
procedure lap in MI. He is through Beaumont in Royal Oak, and I recommend
him highly. If you have questions, please email me!

Hi there! There are a few surgeons doing the lap procedure in Michigan. I
go on friday for surgery through MMPC which is run by doctors Baker &
Foote out of Grand Rapids. There's also a Dr. Scholten who works out of the
Grand Rapids area. Then there's Dr.Krause who's in Royal Oak. Finally
there's Dr. Hanks in Clinton Twp. IF you go to local help at the top of
your screen, click on Michigan and then bariatric surgeons you can look up
all of their contact numbers.Good Luck & if you need more info feel
free to email me anytime:)
