Question:
I want to add milk to my diet for protein, but 12 grams of sugar per serving??

Has anyone dumped from drinking milk? — J. W. (posted on December 1, 2002)

I did the first couple of weeks, but not since then. Naturally occuring sugars don't generally bother me now.

HI, I ALSO LOVE MILK. THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENS WHEN I DRINK MILK IS THAT I GET DIARHEA, BUT NO OTHER OF THE DUMPING SYMPTONS. I CAN NOT DRINK SKIM MILK, ITS GROSS YUK!!! SO EVERY FEW DAYS I HAVE A CUP OF WHOLE MILK, I SUFFER A WHILE BUT THEN ITS OVER.

I love my skim milk! I put about an ounce and a half in my morning tea, and do not dump. Once in a while I drink about 4 ozs. at a time, and sometimes get a dumpish feeling, though not a full dumping experience. I know I can't do over 4 ozs. at one time, so I don't push it because I don't want to spoil this little pleasure I allow myself. Hugs, Joy

I drink milk nearly every morning, usually 4 oz. I have no symptoms at all from drinking it. Usually the sugars occurring naturally in food (milk and fruit) don't cause as much trouble as sucrose, which is refined sugar. I can also eat fruit without any problem, although I don't eat a lot at any one time.

I am nine months post-op and have tried milk (fat free, low fat) and it makes me dump everytime, I love milk too so it is kind of depressing, the only the only kind I haven't tried is soy milk, sounds awful though, so for now I can live without it..

I've never heard of that. I'm less then 2 months post-op and drink 16 oz at one sitting of skim milk and have no problem. Weird cause I dump so easily on the protein bars with "chocolate" or even sugar free cookies. Go figure. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I take a lactose pill right before I drink my milk? Anyway all you can do is try it. If I'm going to dump on something, I know right after the first bite. But everyone is different. Good luck!

Why bother? My Champion Nutrition Pure Whey Stack protein shake has 33 grams of protein, and only like 3 grams of sugar, compared to MAYBE 9 grams of protein (IF you absorb it) and 12 grams of sugar? Mixed with 4-6 oz of water, the chocolate stack tastes like a fudgesicle, and you can carry the dry powder around easily. You can get samples for $2 from www.vitalady.com, and of course, you can also get the 5lb tub there, too. (No, I don't work there, I just buy supplements there, and am very happy with the service!)

My nutritionist says natural sugars such as lactose and fructose (milk & fruit) are fine!

I add nonfat dry milk to my coffee, tea and other things for protien. there is no carbohidrates in it. it gives aprox. 8 grams protien in each 1/3 cup of milk. I get 80 grams of protien in every day and 80 oz of water too.I take my vitimins and calcium about 1400mg.I eat cheese and eggs as my largest protien.I just saw my surgeon and he said that I am doing great and not to worry about the calories at this point. get in your protien, water and vitimines and hang on and you will do fine.
