Question:
BCBS Approval??
Hi everyone - has anybody had BCBS approve for a person with BMI of 39.5 with severe hypertension? Do I need to add a few more lbs. to qualify when I am this close???? Any comments greatly appreciated! Thanks!! — Kerry R. (posted on November 24, 2002)

hi there kerry, i have bcbs, my bmi was high though. you have a co morbity
which would be in your favor, i know of a few that have put on some extra
pounds to assure they got approved. i want to wish you the best of luck and
hope everything goes in your favor. i would talk to the surgeon and see if
he thinks you could get approved at a bmi of 39, if not, hmmmm.... before
having to gain excess lbs, try concealing some heavy ankle weights!! :)
best of luck to you.

BCBS is different in every state. You'd probably have a better chance for
approval if you weighed a few more pounds to get your BMI up to 40, but you
could be approved by your insurer with your co-morbidity. It's a crap
shoot. Good luck.

I'll bet you can take care of those few pounds you're lacking over
Thanksgiving. BCBS is a good insurance, although it has so many
differences in policies, I'd get myself up that half-point just to be safe.
