Question:
Hi! I'm almost 4 weeks post-op RNY, I'm sometimes confused if Im eating right.
Can anyone give me examples of how much they eat and what at 4 weeks post-op??? For breakfast I had an egg with cheese, dinner I had a few bites of salad with lite dressing and a string cheese. Is this too much?? I'm down 27 lbs, but my scale didnt move for over a week!!! — Gina_Lea (posted on November 24, 2002)

I have an egg in the morning also, for lunch 1/2 grilled cheese with
avacodo, then for dinner whatever, a couple of bites of pork chop or
something, sometimes another 1/2 grilled cheese that seems to go down the
best, and I don't seem to get sick of it. Then I also drink alot of milk,
juice, and water threw out day.

Our dietician says we should be eating 2 ozs. of food each meal at 4 weeks.
It increases to 3 ozs. at 6 weeks and 4 ozs. at 12 weeks.

I'm almost 4 weeks post-op RNY, too. For breakfast today, I had 1/2
scrambled egg with cheese. For dinner, I had 1 slice of very lean BBQ beef
cut up in tiny pieces and a couple bites of twice baked potato. I also had
milk and water during the day. My doctor said I would know when I was
hungry and not to eat until I was. So far, that's been the case. I make
sure I get the protein first and foremost and if I have any room left (I'm
learning to feel what "full" is at the first sign), then I eat a
little veggies. It certainly doesn't seem like you're eating too much.
Try not to be too concerned about the scales! Your 27lb loss is
wonderful!!!

seems to me if that's your complete diet for a day then your not eating
nearly enough. Do you supplement with protein shakes or CIB so you are
actually getting more? What happened to lunch? At four weeks I could eat
1 egg with a tiny bit of cheese; Or one, to one and a half ounces of
string cheese; but I ate four to six times a day to get in enough calories
so my body was nurished enough to let go of the weight.

Gina,
I am 6 weeks now but I'm still basically eating the same as I did at 4
weeks. For breakfast I eat and egg and a half a piece of toast. Mid
morning I eat a few of the cheese squares - lunch I eat 1/2 of a small Lean
Cuisine or Healthy Choice meal....spaghetti does well with me. Supper I
usually eat a little lighter - just not hungry at night. Sometimes I'll
have 1/2 a protein shake...other nights I might eat a small serving of
peaches or mixed fruit. I don't snack a lot but if I do snack I make it
cheese or a protein bar. I've lost over 40 lbs and feeling great.

My goodness I don't see how you all are getting your protein in. My surgeon
wants me to have 65-70 grams of protein a day. One egg is only 8g. 1 oz of
meat is only 8g. One oz of cheese is only 7-9g. I am had alot of trouble
getting even 45g of protein and my hair fell out like crazy. At 4 wks I was
eating 6 times a day so I could get up to at least 45g if possible. I do
not believe you are eating too much. Compare what you are eating now to
what you ate preop. You'll keep loosing. Sometimes you'll loose inches and
sometimes it will be pounds. One week is not a long plateau really. Make
sure you're drinking your water.

I had a plateau at 4 weeks too. It alsted about 10 days, then all of a
sudden I lost several pounds. I have also started tracking my diet at
www.fitday.com to see if I am meeting my protein requirements. I have
found if I am taking in less than 800- 900 calories a day my weight loss
stops dead in its tracks. I also do better if I take my protein shake in
the am. I use a few chunks of frozen fruit, a large spoon full of plain
yogurt, a splash of skim milk, a scoop of designer whey protein powder (
vanilla), 1 packet splenda and run it in the blender a few seconds till
all is smooth. it is good and I don't get hungry. Unfortunately, at about 8
weeks post op hunger returned. I will have a couple oz fish, shrimp chicken
and a couple tablespoons veggies for lunch and dinner and sometimes a
tablespoon of potato, rice or pasta. I lost 40 # in 9 weeks and my doctor
says I am ahead of where he expected at this time, I have 80 to my goal.
