Question:
My surgeon requires wl history from pcp
My PCP is brand new and only knows what I've told him. Is my surgeon going to require going back to past doctors? I did supervised weight loss out of one of those "weight loss doctor" mills that gave out fenphen (not to me, when I got there they just gave phen) but they are notorious for not knowing anyone. I also went to a bariatric doctor who is no longer listed in the bariatric database and I can't remember his name. I contacted the bariatric database people and gave them his old address but they couldn't help. Will this be a problem? — susanje (posted on November 13, 2002)

Perhaps you could write up your history and give it to the PCP to forward
to the surgeon. Include other diets in your history and not just the
doctor supervised ones. Your history should include weight watchers, Jenny
Craig, Nutri-system, over the counter medications you've tried (drug store
kind), grapefruit diet, Atkins, cabbage soup diet etc. Anything you've
tried should be part of your history. I remembered all the ones I've been
on, but not the dates, so had to make them up, best I could. It worked. I
think the insurance companies just need to insurea that you have a long
history of trying lots of different diets to get the weight off. It all
counts.
