Question:
Can anyone tell me what is the best protein drink that they have found...
Also, is there a different protein powder that you add to food? My Dietician advised that I use Novartis products, but I have heard from others that it tastes awful. Has anyone tried the "Real Meals" brand that is advertised on this website? — Maria P. (posted on November 12, 2002)

hiya! i use Jarrow's Iso Rich Soy Protein powder - you can cook with it. it
is designed to be cooked with so it can be heated/frozen without losing
it's nutritional value. i have posted recipe files using jarrow's on the
wls support group i belong to's website:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Life_Savors/files/
there are 4 recipe files, 1 holiday recipe file and a recipe for high
protein peanut butter-chocolate chip cookies. look for the files posted by
"katebme2002"
immediately post op, it is preferred that you consume whey protein drink,
"meal replacement" such as myoplex, protoplex or isopure (i think
iso pure is soy)because they have higher protein concentrations and more
calories, which are needed while you are NOT eating food. once you move
onto foods you can use the lower protein, lower calorie protein
supplements.
you cannot cook with whey protein.
i get the jarrow's from: http://www.vitamintrader.com and i also use EAS
Advantage Strength series Chocolate Whey protein; i mix 1 tbls jarrows with
1/2 scoop of EAS, 12 oz coffee, Vitamite (milk sub) and heavy whipping
cream and viola, 30g of protein that is yummy. i can't start my day without
it.
sorry but i haven't tried the Real Meals.
feel free to email me if you have any questions...good luck!

For protein drinks, I make my own tasty shakes. Get the Isopure Zero Carb
Vanilla powder (GNC and others carry it). 1 scoop is 25 grams of protein.
Put 1 scoop in blender with ice and water, and add whatever frozen fruit
you desire, perhaps 1/4 of a banana too, a little vanilla extract, some
sweetener to taste, and its quite a treat. My fav is strawberry-banana or
blueberry-banana. Also,
get 1/2 a can of crushed pineapple, the powder, water, ice, sweetener and
use coconut extract-tastes like a pina colada! Lots of refreshing shakes
you can make.

I use ProScore 100 choc (with water & ice) or Stack chocolate. I use
about 7, but those 2 are my faves. ProCel is another "adder" to
foods. MUCH smoother than the Novartis product. Dissolves. It's pretty
close to tasteless/textureless. Not perfect, but easy to bury it. I add
their UpCAl D to my PS100 and I can't tell it's in there. And I am OH SO
PICKY about my PS100.

Hey -- I ordered a bunch of samples from the vitalady (Michelle Curran) and
sample a bunch of different ones....I agree with Cindy that mixing a shake
is the best way to go, but I've also found that the ProBlend 55 Swiss
Chocolate and Mocha Capuccino are awesome with simply crushed ice and
water. So, if I'm in a rush, thats the way I go. They are very sweet, and
don't need anything added to them. Good luck!

I like the Designer Whey ready to drink available at GNC. They are fruity
drinks in a 16 oz. bottle at 40 g protein per bottle. They also have
Designer Whey powder and I bought a can, (French Vanilla) but I haven't
tried it yet. I've heard it's really good too though.

I take 2 1/2 cups of water, add 3 TBLSP of Sci-fit Amino Infusion 5000 and
stir in 1 tsp Sugar Free lemonade mix. Each tablespoon of the protein has 5
grams in it. I do this in place of 5 of my cups of water.
I am thrilled when I finish two glasses of this mix I have gotten in 5 cups
of water and 30 grams of protein.
The sci-fit amino 5000 is a liquid protein and I use the raspberry.

You might want to go to www.vitalady.com. It is run by Michelle Curran and
her hubby who are both one of us. She carries samples, so you can try
lots. I went thru eight until I found problend 55 mocha. I would suggest
this as what someone else might like one type you might not like it. I also
get my vitamins from them as they are knowledgeable and have learnt thru
experience what is best for the WLS patients. Best of luck to you!

I originally ordered samples from vitalady.com. Out of all the samples I
tried, I LOVED Designer Whey protein powder. I buy the chocolate flavor.
I've posted this many times on here......Every morning I put one scoop in a
cup of milk along with a half packet of equal. Takes a few minutes to stir
up but tastes just like chocolate milk and gives me 25 grams of protein.

I use GNC 100% Whey Protein shakes, chocolate flavor. They are absolutely
delicious. I have made the shakes cold and hot. I have also added
sugar-free ice-cream (just a little) or frozen yogurt to make it more like
a milkshake. Also what's good with GNC's products is that if you do not
like the flavor of the shake they take back the unused portion for a full
refund.

Susan Maria carries all sorts of great protein drinks. You can see her
site at www.bariatriceating.com. I love the things I've purchased from
her. The Nectar brand is great.

After trying isopure creamy vanilla, which I did not like. I went to
nowfoods.com and ordered whey protein isolate. It is tasteless. In the
blender I put 6ounces of blue bunny carb freedom yogurt, 1 scoop of protein
and a small amount of frozen berries and blend. This makes a delicious
smoothie. It equals to 34 grams of protein. Only 3 grams of fat. 5 carbs
and 5 grams of sugar. 190 cal. I have also tried dannons low carb peach
yougurt and added fresh peaches . VERY GOOD!
