Question:
Has anyone had a delayed period post op?
I am almost 4 weeks post-op lap RNY (10/15/2002) and doing great. My question is that I was due for my period five days ago and definitely NOT pregnant. Does the surgery throw off hormones to this extent? I am not on any hormone based birth control right now. — Yolanda J. (posted on November 10, 2002)

Hilarious -- I was getting to the point where I was going to post this
question, but I checked in the database library and it appears to be
totally normal. I am 3 weeks post lap RNY, period was due a week ago, no
sign of it. And, unfortunately, there is NO WAY I'm pregnant. (Not
unfortunate that I'm not pregnant, unfortunate that there is NO WAY.
heehee) Don't worry about it -- our bodies are reacting to a trauma. It
will come.

Period ? Whats a period ??? I almost forgot what it is. I am 13mos. out and
only had mine 2 times since my RNY.And that was in the first 3mos. I'm 46
so maybe it is menopause but I don't think so.I think the hormones are
definitly wacky !!

Hi, I am almost a year out. The first 2 months out I did not have a period.
Its the hormonal changes caused by the surgery. ENJOY IT !!!!!

Yes, yes, and yes! I did get my period about a week after surgery, but
then I did not get it for 3 months. It finally came on its own again the
4th month. I was very regular before surgery, so this was a little
concerning to me, but I was told it was due to rapid weight loss. My OBGYN
said that if I wouldn't have gotten it that 4th month they would have put
me on progesterone to bring it on, but luckily I didn't have to.

After sinus surgery, I did not have a period for 3 months. After RNY I had
a period but it was off. I am only 8 weeks post op, so we will see. Iwas
told that anesthesia screws up the cycle.

hi yolonda :) the answer to your question is yes. surgery itself is trauma
to the system but weight loss makes estrogen levels wacky so its very
normal to either miss periods or they may be erratic for a while. i had my
cycle right before surgery and then again right after. 3 of my friends
experienced the same thing. everything went to normal for a bit but even at
9 mo out, mine are still wacky at times. best of luck to you :)
