Question:
I sometimes breath in hiccups
I start a breath normally, and then it just suddenly shortens itself. It's hard to explain. sometimes it is painful, sometimes it is not. there seems to be no rhyme nor reason for it. anyone else have this? what did you do? — Carla C. (posted on October 6, 2002)

I have the same thing! I don't DO anything, it just happens like a sharp
intake of breath out of nowhere, I will be watching to see if anyone
answers here too. Dawn

For the first couple of weeks after my surgery I was breathing weird, also.
I would all of a sudden take a really DEEP breath and I never knew when it
was going to happen. My family thought something was terribly wrong. But,
it went away after a couple of weeks - maybe it has something to do with
the anethesia?

I hiccup deeply once, several times a day. At first my surgeon's office
thought it could be gas from the anesthesia. But now at 5 months post-op,
I'll have to ask her again as they haven't stopped. It's embarassing when
it happens at work because sometimes they are so loud. You'd think I was
drinking on the job! ;o)

you know, thanks for just answering you guys. It really makes me feel
better to know that other people are out there experiencing the same thing
as me....

The same thing happened to me a few months after my surgery. I would be
start to talk or be in the middle of speaking a it came. It was annoying
because it would take a few minutes to clear and I hoped it wouldn't turn
into full blown hiccups! I'm 5 months post op and they don't happen as
much. I sure got funny looks from people, I think some thought I was going
to throw up. I don't know what causes it but hopefully it will pass.

This is funny in a sense that I am having similar symptoms and so relieved
knowing others are having it too. It started in the hospital. I was just
laying there in bed and all the sudden my tummy would jerk or spasm
resulting in a burp or hiccup. At almost 2 weeks post-op I still get one
here and there..not painful by any means..just a little annoying..~Traci~
