Question:
How can I tell if I have an incisional hernia? I have a big pooch at the front of my
stomach at my incision and it looks like I am 8 months pregnant. I never had it before surgery. I don't have any pain or anything. It is very hard when I stand up. Thanks for all advice. — Judy W. (posted on October 4, 2002)

Sounds like a hernia to me. Does it disappear when you lay down?

Yes it does sound like you have a herina. Me same thing as you (and I'm a
guy) and I had mine repaired Monday-9/30. Feels much better and I'm sure
when I heal,it will look much better. I'm almost 8 months post-op and I'm
down 155 pounds. Good Luck to you-If you have any questions, feel free to
e-mail me-Gary

Judy, Yes it sounds like one to me. I have one also. It especially sticks
out worse after I eat. When I lay down, my stomach is flat and I can also
feel my ribs, but when I am standing up I look pregnant. I call it my
alien, lol. I am 8 months post-op and down 120 pounds. I am going for my tt
consult Wednesday and the surgeon who done my RNY is going to do my hernia
repair and then the plastic surgeon is going to come in behind him and do
my tt. I wish you a lot of luck and congratulations on your sucessful
weightloss. Feel free to e-mail me privately if you have any other
questions. Jeanie
