I am 7 days post op and am having probems with protein.

I am on full liquids and milk is a tough one. I have tried the Carnations Instant Breakfast one but that is too much to drink. Please help.    — Deanna N. (posted on September 23, 2002)

At this point, your new pouch is still swollen and getting the fluids in is the most important thing - even more than protein. Sip, sip, sip - all day long - because that is what you will need to do. <p> There are non-shake protein drinks like the Designer Whey Protein Blast that is available at The Vitamin Shoppe that you may be able to tolerate to get some protein in...JR (open RNY 07/17 -83 lbs)

I don't use milk at all (doc forbids). My protein shakes up in 4 oz of water, delivers 30g protein, no sugar, smooth, relatively cheap to use.

My doctor said not too worry so much about protein intake the first couple of weeks. If I could get some in, fine. If not, that was fine also. He was worried more about dehydration. I did see on here that someone posted that they would put baby food in their liquids and drink it. (baby food meats)You might want to try baby food chicken mixed in chicken broth. That would give you some protein.

I too had a terrible time getting in my protein until I found the most wonderful protein drink out there!! I cant stand the chalky, milky taste of the shakes so I now drink ISOPURE ZERO CARB Drink. Its like gatorade actually. It comes in a varity of flavors, I prefer Blue Raspberry. The best part about it is it is 40 grams of protein per 20oz bottle and has zero sugar. Over ice or just cold it is awesome!!!! I found it at GNC for about 3.00 a bottle. Online you can find some deals at different nutrition sites, but GNC also carries it. It honestly was a lifesaver to me cause I couldnt choke down any of the protein shakes I had tried!! Good Luck to you, hope this helps! Tonya

I agree with Kim 100%, just make sure you qet enough liquids and DON'T get dehydrated. Chesk your tongue several times a day, if it starts to appear white, you are getting dehydrated! Good Luck!
